The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) last week granted authorization for Floridian Natural Gas Storage Co. LLC to export up to 14.6 Bcf per year (0.04 Bcf/d) of containerized liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a facility planned for Martin County, FL.

Lake Charles Exports LLC is conditionally authorized to export at a rate of up to 2 Bcf/d, bringing the potential total U.S. LNG exports to 5.6 Bcf/d.

FERC has authorized Discovery Gas Transmission LLC to construct a platform and pipeline facilities in South Timbalier Block 283 in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) to extend its system and provide firm transportation for new deepwater natural gas sources in the southeast quadrant of Keathley Canyon, “a frontier area for oil and gas exploration and development.”

It is the second such approval the department has granted, and numerous other projects are in line to see if/when they will secure the same.

Water samples taken downstream of facilities authorized to treat wastewater from natural gas wells in the Marcellus Shale had elevated concentrations of chloride but not total suspended solids (TSS), although the obverse was true in samples collected downstream of watersheds with shale gas wells drilled on them, according to a report published in the Proceedings of National Academies of Sciences (PNAS).
