AGA Suggests LDC Marketing Affiliate Guidelines

The American Gas Association is seeking to get its two cents’worth in on the conduct of affiliated marketers by adopting eightprinciples intended to guide state officials in policymaking. “AGAbelieves that state officials already have ample authority toreview relationships between natural gas utilities and theiraffiliates,” said Miriam Swydan Erickson, AGA senior director ofgovernment relations. “The new AGA principles are intended toassist state regulators considering additional rules.”

AGA Predicting Strong 1997 Reserve Numbers

The American Gas Association(AGA) predicts additions to domesticproved gas reserves last year will come out between 96% and 120% ofproduction. “The indication of strong 1997 reserves replacementcomes at a time when long-term natural gas growth is expected toreach 30 Tcf by 2015,” said Chris McGill, director of gas supplyand statistics at AGA. “To meet the requirements of robust growthin gas markets, annual additions to gas reserves through drillingmust also remain strong, balancing new sources of natural gas withdomestic production each year.”

IPAA Sues DOI Over Royalty Rule

The Independent Petroleum Association (IPAA) has filed a lawsuitagainst the Department of the Interior, claiming that through a newnatural gas royalty regulation DOI’s Minerals Management Service iscollecting a larger share of royalties than it is entitled to.
