Solar Water Heating Bill, Three Others Passed by California Legislature
Another chapter in California’s growing attempts to harness its abundance of solar energy was written in the wee hours of last Wednesday morning when the state legislature passed a statewide incentive program for solar water heating (AB 1470). The measure will now go to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is expected to sign it, according to the environmental group that helped craft the bill. The final Assembly vote was 43-29.
Feds to Host Public Forums on LNG Import Growth, New Terminals
Liquefied natural gas (LNG) importers may get a little federal assistance next month when the Department of Energy (DOE), Homeland Security, FERC and the Department of Transportation begin a series of forums aimed at educating the public on LNG issues. With the growing threat of additional terrorists attacks on U.S. citizens and infrastructure, the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) told Senate Energy Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) in a letter last week that it believes the federal government should be prepared to commit military troops and equipment to protect the nation’s critical natural gas pipeline facilities.

The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) believes the federal government should be prepared to commit military troops and equipment to protect the nation’s critical natural gas pipeline facilities. In a letter responding to a request for security suggestions from Senate Energy Committee Chairman Jeff Bingaman, INGAA President Jerald Halvorsen urged greater restrictions on sensitive pipeline location information, better cooperation between government and industry on pipeline monitoring issues, and that oversight during this time of heightened security be placed under one federal umbrella agency, the new Office of Homeland Security set up by President Bush.
