Kulluk Rig Refloated and Moved to Safe Harbor

Late Monday morning in Alaska, Royal Dutch Shell plc’s formerly grounded Kulluk drilling rig arrived safely at Kiliuda Bay. The rig had been refloated Sunday night and towed to its new location Monday morning.

A U.S. flagged oil tanker arrived at the Port of Corpus Christi, TX, on Wednesday to load Eagle Ford Shale crude for transport to other U.S. ports. The Jones Act of 1920 requires that any goods moved by water from one U.S. port to another must be carried by a U.S. flagged ship. The M/V Pennsylvania passed by the Harbor Bridge gateway to the inner harbor Wednesday and docked at the port’s Oil Dock No. 1, the Corpus Christi Caller Times reported. It is the U.S. built tanker’s first visit to the Corpus Christi port.

Transportation Notes

In e-mail notices that arrived a minute apart Thursday morning, Southern California Gas declared a high-linepack OFO for the same day and then extended it through at least Friday. The tolerance for positive daily imbalances was set at 10% in both cases. The distributor also said it will lose 30 MMcf/d of storage injection capacity from next Tuesday through June 10 due to anomaly repairs on Line 1004.

The first of what is expected to be up to 50 shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar arrived at the end of November at Sempra Energy’s Cameron, LA, receiving terminal, according to a report from a unit of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The initial shipment equated to 4.1 Bcf.
