FBR Sees Deepwater Projects, LNG Offsetting Drilling Declines

There’s no need to worry about sharp drops in gas supply, said Arlington, VA-based investment bank Friedman, Billings, Ramsey & Co. (FBR) in a new report. Gas production from new deepwater projects in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) and a boom in liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports will be more than enough to carry the load over the next few years and make up for any lasting effect from the current drilling decline.

AES to Test California’s Plant Approval Process

One of the world’s leading independent power plantdeveloper/operators, Arlington, VA-based AES Corp., announced thisweek that it will try to re-power two old units among its coastalmix of California power plants under the state’s newly createdfast-track power plant siting process. The goal is to have an added450 MW of baseload capacity available next summer.

The AES Corp., headquartered in Arlington, VA, has begunconstruction on a $340 million electric power plant and liquefiednatural gas importing facility in the Dominican Republic. The AESAndres plant will be located outside of Santo Domingo, and willconsist of a 300 MW gas-fired combined cycle plant and LNGimporting terminal. The plant, which will take about two years tobuild, will be powered by a 501F gas turbine from Mitsubishi HeavyIndustries. BP Amoco will supply LNG under a 20-year fuel supplyagreement, and Chicago Bridge & Iron will construct the LNGfacility. AES already has a substantial presence in the DominicanRepublic, owning 100% interest in a 210 MW simple cycle electricpower station and a 50% interest in an electric distributioncompany, EDE Este there. EDE serves more than two million customersin the eastern region.

International Oil & Gas Inc. has announced it has entered into an agreement with Trans Energy Inc. of St. Marys, WV, and Jayhawk Resources LLC of Arlington, TX, to lease over 5,000 acres in West Virginia to test the Trenton and Black River formations.
