Arizona Reviews NatGas as Part of State Energy Plan
As historically a dropping off point for major interstate natural gas pipelines, rather than a final destination, Arizona is intensifying its assessment of natural gas as part of a statewide energy plan now being drafted by Gov. Jan Brewer’s Energy Office.

Chicago-basedTrillium CNGandGolden Eagle Distributors Inc. opened the first public access heavy-duty compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in Casa Grande, AZ, a Phoenix suburb. Golden Eagle will use the facility to fuel its delivery fleet, and the fueling station also will be open to the public 24/7, including Class 8 trucks. All major credit cards and fleet cards are good at the station, and Trillium said it will be making special fuel pricing programs available to encourage other fleets in the area to switch to CNG. Making the station public is part of Golden Eagle’s efforts to make CNG a more viable option for local fleets and individual drivers.

Sempra Energy’s U.S. power and gas unit has agreed to sell half of its natural gas-fired 1,250 MW Mesquite Power Plant in Arizona to Phoenix-based Salt River Project (SRP) for $371 million. The agreement, which also includes a half-interest in infrastructure shared by the two 625 MW units at Mesquite, requires approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and other agencies. San Diego-based Sempra said it expects all the approvals will be received in the first quarter. SRP’s board earlier this year approved its acquisition of a 100% interest in one of Mesquite’s 625 MW units. Sempra U.S. Gas and Power CEO Jeffrey Martin said the sale helps Sempra fulfill its goal of “reducing exposure to the merchant power market, while also allowing us to put greater emphasis on growing our Southeast natural gas portfolio.”

Part of PG&E Southwest Transmission Pipe Fails Test
Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) said Monday part of its transmission pipeline picking up Southwest supplies at the California-Arizona border failed a hydrostatic test earlier in the day. Screen Dip, Milder Temperatures Push All Points Lower
The South was destined to bake under highs from around 90 to a little more than 100 stretching as far west as Arizona, but most of the rest of the U.S. and Canada could expect temperatures ranging from merely warm to chilly. Combined with the previous day’s July futures dip of 17.3 cents, the decline of cooling demand resulted in double-digit price losses across the board Friday.
