Mixed Price Movement Is Mostly Close to Flat
Thursday’s cash market featured mostly small moves up or down from flat. Although cooling trends were approaching in the Northeast, South and parts of the Midwest, really frigid weather is due to remain fairly scarce in North America outside central and western Canada. The previous day’s screen drop of 14.3 cents contributed to cash losses moderately outnumbering the gains.
Smaller Overall Gains Hint that Rally Is Nearing End
Most of the market continued to rise Wednesday, but nearly all of the increases were smaller than Tuesday. Predictions of warmer temperatures approaching, particularly in the Midwest and South and to a lesser extent in the Rockies, create a moderately bearish price outlook through the end of the week.
Price Moves Reverse to Downside at Most Points
The cash market is displaying one of its quirkier characteristics. After rising strongly at all but one point Monday in anticipation of significantly colder temperatures approaching later in the week to much of the nation’s midsection, prices fell at a large majority of locations Tuesday, even as the heating load-boosting conditions began to arrive.
