S&P Gives ‘A’ to Qatar LNG Expansion

U.S. receipt terminal operators may be buoyed by the Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services (S&P) announcement last Monday that it was giving an “A” credit rating to the expansion of liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction facilities in Qatar, which could become an increasingly important supplier to the United States. S&P placed a “stable” outlook on the Qatari government and ExxonMobil joint venture developing LNG processing infrastructure, Ras Laffan LNG Co.

In an e-mail announcement that didn’t arrive until early that morning, Southern California Gas (SoCalGas) declared a high-linepack OFO for Saturday, setting the tolerance for positive daily imbalances at 10%. The OFO was lifted Sunday. SoCalGas also said it lost 50 MMcf/d of injection capacity at its Honor Rancho storage facility when repairs began Sunday on a packing leak of compressor Unit #4; the work is expected to continue through Friday.

Some Sakhalin II Supplies Headed for Sempra’s LNG Terminal

More gas could ultimately flow sooner through Sempra Energy’s underutilized West Coast liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal following an announcement Wednesday that Royal Dutch Shell and Russia’s Gazprom have signed a series of 20-year agreements in which both will be buying LNG supplies from the eastern Russia Sakhalin II production area. It gives the Russian behemoth its first major entry into the U.S. market.
