Of 55-56 producers ranging from Amerada Hess to Woodside Energy that still hold royalty-free deepwater oil and natural gas leases, the Minerals Management Service (MMS) is actively renegotiating with 10 producers to correct the oversight that is costing the federal government billions of dollars, the head of the MMS told the House Government Reform Committee Thursday.

Amerada Hess Seeks Shareholder Approval to Simplify Name
New York-based Amerada Hess Corp. on Friday announced it will seek shareholder approval to change its name to Hess Corp. The revised name, said the company, is already “firmly established” in the company’s marketing and refining operations and recognized by customers where the company operates.
Higher Prices Lift ConocoPhillips, Hess, Kerr-McGee
Two of the top U.S.-based integrated majors, ConocoPhillips and Amerada Hess Corp., along with revamped independent Kerr-McGee Corp., reported Wednesday phenomenal earnings growth in 4Q2005 and full-year 2005, boosted by soaring oil and natural gas prices. ConocoPhillips also recorded natural gas production gains in Alaska and the Lower 48 states in the final quarter; however, gas output at Hess and Kerr-McGee for the final period and the year was lower.
Hess Exploratory Program to Focus on Deepwater Gulf
Amerada Hess Corp. has set aside $4 billion for its capital budget this year, with about $766 million earmarked for overseas opportunities. The New York-based producer plans to spend $570 million for exploration and exploitation, with more than half of the exploratory program focused on the deepwater Gulf of Mexico.

Amerada Hess Corp. said it has purchased EnLine Energy Solutions’ natural gas marketing business. EnLine supplies gas to more than 200 commercial, industrial, and municipal customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia. The transaction closed on Aug. 1.

FirstEnergy Corp. sold its retail gas marketing business, FirstEnergy Solutions, to Amerada Hess Corp. on Friday. FirstEnergy Solutions supplied gas to 1,900 commercial and industrial customers in selected areas within Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Terms of the deal weren’t released. Akron, OH-based FirstEnergy holds seven electric utility operating companies with 4.4 million customers in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
