Other than severe heat in the Southwest and inland California, gas wasn’t getting much weather support Wednesday, as much of the South turned decidedly mild in the wake of a cool front moving southeastward. But prices still managed fairly strong rebounds that were between 10 and 29 cents in most cases, and up to about 30 cents at the PG&E citygate and above 40 cents in San Juan Basin.

Florida Gas Transmission ended Wednesday an Overage Alert Day notice that had begun Monday. FGT also informed customers Wednesday afternoon that the excess liquids issue from a pigging operation on Matagorda Offshore Pipeline System had been resolved, and it began accepting full nominations up to the capacity of 230,000 MMBtu/d at the FGT-MOPS interconnect in South Texas for Wednesday’s Intraday 2 cycle.

Previously reported maintenance on the El Paso Natural Gas will reduce capacity on the San Juan Crossover by 150 MMcf/d Sept. 18. Maintenance on the San Juan system also will cut capacity by 250 MMcf/d on Sept. 26 and by 220 MMcf/d Sept. 30-Oct.1. Window Rock 2B repairs have been completed earlier than expected. Columbia to Refund $6.8M in Penalty Charges in Virginia Settlement
Ending an almost two-year-old argument over $6.8 million in levied penalties stemming from the winter of 2000-2001, the Virginia State Corporation Commission (VSCC) on Monday accepted a settlement between Columbia Gas of Virginia and its transportation customers, stating that the matter can now be part of the commission’s file for “ended causes.”
CornerStone Looks for Buyer, Takes Charge for Exiting Marketing
CornerStone Propane Partners LP is waiting for a buyer and several have expressed interest, but the company also is formulating a fall-back plan in case a sale or merger doesn’t materialize. The company said last week that it has shut down its wholesale natural gas marketing operations, which were conducted by Coast Energy Group (CEG).
FERC Enjoined from Enforcing OCS Reporting Requirement
The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia has enjoined the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) from enforcing its open-ended reporting requirement on natural gas pipelines operating offshore, ruling that the agency far exceeded its authority under the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA) when it took this action nearly two years ago.
Blast of Winter Causes Swing Prices to Soar
Traders not only talked about the weather Wednesday, but also did something about it: namely, sent spot prices skyrocketing by 30-60 cents or more in most cases. The biggest increases came at frigid Northeast and Midwest citygates, topped by gains of nearly 80 cents at Transco’s Zone 6-NYC pool.
