Black Hills Acquires Xcel Energy’s Wyoming Utility

Black Hills Corp. and Xcel Energy Inc. announced late Tuesday that they have entered into an agreement where Black Hills will acquire Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power (CLF&P) from Xcel, pending regulatory approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Wyoming Public Service Commission. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Shell Acquires 70,000 Ohio Retail Gas Contracts from USP&G

Shell Energy Services said it has transferred 70,000 Ohio retail natural gas sales accounts from U.S. Power and Gas (USP&G), a retail energy marketer that has decided to put its Ohio operations on hold. Shell said the customer assignments, all of which were in the Dominion East Ohio (DEO) service territory, were completed on Dec. 31, 2003. No terms of the transfer were announced.

Chesapeake Energy Acquires $510M in E&P Assets, Augments Midcontinent, Permian Role

Looking to expand both its acreage and proven natural gas and oil reserve base, Oklahoma City, OK-based Chesapeake Energy Corp. has entered into agreements to acquire $510 million of Midcontinent, Permian Basin and onshore Gulf Coast oil and gas assets through recent agreements to acquire privately-owned Concho Resources Inc. for $420 million and two smaller property acquisitions totaling $90 million.

In its fourth acquisition since May, Forest Oil Corp. last week agreed to buy 70 of Unocal Corp.’s offshore Gulf of Mexico (GOM) and onshore Louisiana properties for $295 million. As of July 1, the 273,000 net acres held approximately 34 MMboe in reserves, with net production of 18,000 boe/d.
