Fulton Acquires NY Power Plant

Fulton Cogeneration Associates, a limited partnership owned byCoastal Corp. subsidiaries, acquired the 79.6 MW Rensselaercogeneration plant near Albany, NY, and pertinent contracts fromLG&E Westmoreland Rensselaer, in which LG&E IndustrialSales Corp. and Westmoreland-Rensselaer LP are general partners.

KN Acquires Mexican Gas Interest

KN Energy International Inc. bought an interest in IntegratedGas Services of Mexico LLC (Igasamex), a Mexico City-based companythat is involved in helping Mexican industry convert to natural gasfrom alternative fuels – such as diesel, propane or fuel oil -through development of supply and transportation projects. It alsoprovides third-party inspection of pipeline construction, andprovides pipeline management services in Mexico. Terms of theacquisition were not disclosed.

Midwest Electric AEP Acquires Louisiana Gas

In a move to build up the natural gas side of its business andbecome a Btu trading power, American Electric Power subsidiary AEPResources agreed to buy the midstream gas operations of EquitableResources, principally the Louisiana Intrastate Gas (LIG) system,for $320 million in cash. The addition will be AEP’s firstmidstream gas holdings.

PP&L Resources Acquires Penn Fuel Gas Operations

PP&L Resources Inc. announced that it acquired Penn FuelGas, a gas distributor and storage company, in a stock transactionvalued at $133 million. The purchase was the latest step by theutility company to diversify its portfolio of energy products andservices, said PP&L Resources President William F. Hecht.

Calpine Acquires Dow Power Plant

Independent power producer Calpine Corp. acquired Dow Chemical’s70 MW gas-fired power plant at Dow’s Pittsburg, CA, chemicalfacility for about $13 million. The deal includes Dow’s gaspipeline system that provides the plant with low-cost fuel fromSacramento basin gas fields. Key to the transaction is Calpine’splan to build a 500 to 700 MW gas-fired power plant adjacent toDow’s Pittsburg chemical plant. The new power plant will requirecapital of $250 million to $350 million and will generate enoughelectricity to power half a million households. The existing plantuses 16,000 MMBtu/d, and the new plant will use 80,000 to 90,000MMBtu/d.

HI Acquires Four SoCal Edison Plants

Houston Industries Power Generation (HIPG) completed its $237million acquisition of four gas-fired generating plants totaling2,276 MW from Southern California Edison. HIPG had submitted thewinning bids for SCE’s Ellwood, Mandalay, Etiwanda and Cool Waterplants, which have been renamed Oeste, Ocean Vista, Mountain Vistaand Alta Power, respectively.
