California Reviews New Gas-Fired Power for 2010

As special power conservation alerts were being issued across the state, the California Energy Commission (CEC) voted Wednesday to accept an application to begin review for a proposed 850 MW natural gas peaking power plant to be built in the desert in Riverside County near Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs. If constructed the plant would be called into service during heat waves such as those in the last few days which strain the state’s power delivery capacity.

New Jersey Says Exelon/PSEG Proposal ‘Lacks Clarity’

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) on Friday concurred with a staff recommendation that staff not accept a recent proposal offered by Exelon and Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) related to the companies’ pending merger. A green light from the NJBPU remains the final regulatory hurdle the merger must clear before it can close.

Third Suitor Wins Canada Southern’s Hand

Canada Southern Petroleum’s board of directors told shareholders Monday that they should accept a US$9.75/share all-cash offer from Canadian Oil Sands for all of the outstanding stock of the company and reject two other offers from Canadian Superior Energy Inc. and Petro-Canada.

Transportation Notes

Indicating that linepack is rising to undesirable levels, Texas Eastern said effective Wednesday until further notice it cannot accept requests for resolution of incremental due-pipe imbalances or creation of due-shipper imbalances. Customers need to resolve existing due-shipper imbalances, Texas Eastern said, adding that it will force balance TABS-1 pools or restrict the system as required.

FERC last Thursday ordered Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) to revise its tariff within the next 30 days to specify standards for the energy content of the domestic gas stream and imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), clearing the way for the introduction of regasified LNG into its pipeline system.
