Midcontinent, East Offset Northeast Weakness; Futures Notch New High

Overall cash prices added about a nickel on average Wednesday as strength at eastern and other points was able to offset weakness in the Northeast and a steady Midcontinent market. Meanwhile, December futures recorded a 12-month spot contract high on the day at $3.827 before closing out the regular session at $3.760, up 2.1 cents from Tuesday’s finish. January was 2.2 cents higher at $3.879. December crude oil rose 94 cents to $86.32/bbl.

Cash Gains, But Futures Rocket Higher Following EIA Report

The overall cash market added two cents on average Thursday as gains at eastern points and the Gulf Coast were able to offset softness in the Northeast and southern California. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported a build of 51 Bcf, which was higher than market expectations, but prices slipped only for a moment. At the close November futures had gained a stout 11.7 cents to $3.587 and December had added 8.4 cents to $3.904. November crude oil eased 2 cents to $92.10/bbl.

UGI Pipeline, Compressor Station Subject to Public Hearing

In a bid to succeed in a part of Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale where two other companies have failed, officials with a midstream subsidiary of UGI Corp. will attend Tuesday night’s public hearing before the Luzerne County Planning Commission to field questions about the company’s proposal to build a natural gas pipeline and compressor station.

EPA Ends Water Sampling in Dimock, PA

Following a series of tests indicating that water from private wells in Dimock Township, PA, is safe to drink, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Wednesday said it has determined “that there are not levels of contaminants present that would require additional action by the agency” and it has no plans to further test water samples in the township.
