Schlumberger Ltd. and IBM have launched a commercial hybrid cloud to allow energy operators global access, with “full interoperability” no matter where the decision-making is done.

Under the program, exploration and production (E&P) customers would gain access to the open subsurface data universe, or OSDU, in locations “where data residency requirements and local regulations may affect the use of a global public cloud.” 

The OSDU leverages “advanced capabilities to help customers in all regions make faster decisions and optimize operational efficiency,” said Schlumberger’s Rajeev Sonthalia, president of Digital & Integration.
