Australia’s largest natural gas and oil companies are moving forward with key projects for the future of the country’s LNG industry.

Santos Ltd. has sanctioned a $300 million-plus pipeline project that would create an additional connection to its Darwin liquefied natural gas facility in Northern Australia. Dubbed the Darwin Pipeline Duplication Project, the pipeline extension would offer a connection between the LNG facility and the offshore Barossa gas field, while freeing up the existing Bayu-Undan pipeline to be repurposed.

CEO Kevin Gallagher said the Bayu-Undan would live a second life as a part of a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project that is a key pillar in a plan to extend the lifespan and sustainability of the Darwin facility.
