A fatal explosion on a natural gas pipeline in western Russia, which moves supplies to Europe, did little to move prices on the continent after a unit of Gazprom PJSC said deliveries were being rerouted.

Three people were reportedly killed and another was injured during maintenance on a stretch of the Urengoy-Pomary-Uzhhorod pipeline in the Chuvashia region. Footage of the blast circulated on social media and news sites from various vantage points showed a fireball burning continuously in the area.

A unit of Gazprom in a statement said the explosion was being bypassed and natural gas was moving on “parallel gas pipelines.” The system moves gas from the Urengoy gas field in Siberia to Ukraine, where it is transported to Europe.
