Energy distribution and services company UGI Corp.’s subsidiary UGI Energy Services LLC, headquartered in Wyomissing, PA, has completed the acquisition of Houston-based renewable natural gas (RNG) company GHI Energy LLC.

GHI’s primary goal is to provide vehicle fleets with RNG through supply coordination from various national sources. GHI mainly markets RNG in California, where in February regulators established a system developed to encourage the use of RNG.

UGI Energy Services plans to utilize its knowledge of energy commodity marketing and strong customer base of roughly 3 million to assist in the expansion of GHI’s marketing, supply and logistics, and project expertise to other regions in the United States.

UGI’s acquisition of GHI assists the company’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction strategies, one of which is to introduce RNG into its supply portfolio. UGI Utilities, another UGI Corp. subsidiary, hopes to reduce operational methane emissions by 95% by 2040 compared to 1999 levels.

“The GHI acquisition advances our strategy to position UGI as a leading provider of energy solutions that meet the environmental and social needs of our customers and our communities,” said UGI Corp.’s CEO John L. Walsh.
