Covid-19 continued to substantially impact domestic production in June, although consumption reached a record high, driven largely by increased gas use in the power sector, the EIA report said.

Dry gas production saw its second consecutive y/y decline, with preliminary data showing output of 88.3 Bcf/d, down 3.1% from June 2019. However, the average daily production rate was the second highest for June since EIA began tracking monthly dry gas output in 1973, researchers said.

Estimated natural gas consumption, meanwhile, rose 0.9% y/y to 71.1 Bcf/d, the highest amount for June since EIA began using the current definitions for consuming sectors in 2001.
