Having lost its chief financial officer (CFO) who left to enter a new industry in Pennsylvania, Albuquerque, NM-based PNM Resources Monday said it reached into the public power sector for a new CFO, naming Charles N. Eldred to that position. Eldred, 52, comes from Omaha (NE) Public Power District, where he has been CFO since 1999.

He will join the New Mexico utility holding company Jan. 16 as senior vice president/CFO.

Prior to his run in the public power sector, Eldred headed financing and capital markets for Atlanta-based Southern Company where he executed multi-billion-dollar debt and equity financing strategies and managed rating agency and investment banking relationships associated with capital markets.

PNM CEO Jeff Sterba said Eldred brings what he called “a wealth of financial experience in the utility industry,” and at PNM he will oversee four different departments — treasury, investor relations/corporate planning, controller’s group and risk management.

Eldred began his career with Georgia Power, one of the Southern Company utilities, after earning an undergraduate degree in business from the University of Georgia and an MBA from Mercer University in Atlanta.
