Oklahoma City investigators have found no evidence that Aubrey McClendon committed suicide when he died in a one-vehicle crash in March (see Daily GPI, March 2). The chairman of American Energy Partners LP and the former CEO of Chesapeake Energy Corp. died one day after he was indicted by a federal grand jury on bid-rigging charges. Interviews and a review of emails and mobile phone record concluded that McClendon’s death was not a homicide. An investigation by the Oklahoma medical examiner found no alcohol in his system. A final crash report in March showed that McClendon, 56, made no serious attempt to slow the 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving, which slammed into a concrete embankment at 78 mph.
Railroad Commission of Texas Commissioner Christi Craddick has been appointed to the National Petroleum Council (NPC) for the 2016-2017 term by U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz. She will serve along with recent appointee Stan Wise of the Georgia Public Service Commission (see Daily GPI, May 23). The NPC, a self-funded body of advisers to the Energy secretary, represent all sectors of the oil and gas industry and related interests.
