Devon Energy Corp. reported that H. Allen Turner, senior vice president of corporate development, plans to retire at the end of this month to pursue other interests. Turner led Devon’s corporate finance and capital formation activities since joining the company in 1982. Brian J. Jennings, Devon’s current vice president of corporate finance, has been elected to succeed Turner. Devon Energy said Jennings brings more than 17 years of oil and gas-related experience, including 11 years in energy investment banking. The company also announced that David J. Sambrooks has been elected to the position of vice president and general manager-international division. He was previously production manager for South America. Prior to its merger with Devon, Sambrooks served as general manager of international business development and western hemisphere production for Santa Fe Snyder Corp. Devon Energy is an independent energy company engaged in oil and gas exploration, production and property acquisitions. Almost 75% of the company’s proved reserves are located in North America. Devon Energy also has significant international operations in Azerbaijan, Southeast Asia, South America and West Africa.

Conoco Inc. announced that Henry W. Sykes has been named president of Conoco Canada Limited, following successful completion of the Gulf Canada acquisition by Conoco. The appointment is effective immediately the company said. Sykes joined Gulf Canada in 1998 as senior vice president, business development and general counsel, later becoming executive vice president, business development. He has extensive experience in all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, securities and corporate law. Prior to joining Gulf Canada, Sykes spent 15 years in private practice and has taught bar admission classes in corporate law.

AGL Resources Inc. announced the appointment of Jeffrey P. Brown to the position of associate general counsel. Brown will report to Paul R. Shlanta, general counsel of AGL Resources. Brown most recently served as vice president and general counsel for Evolution Networks, Inc., a startup telecommunications company. Prior to that role, Brown held a number of executive positions with BellSouth Corp. He last served at BellSouth as vice president and group counsel. In that capacity, he was responsible for the legal affairs of the Customer Markets and Network Services divisions, which together represent 70% of the gross revenues of the company.

Houston-based The American Energy Group Ltd. reported Monday that it has appointed Georg von Canal as president to succeed Chuck Valceschini, who has resigned. Von Canal, who assumed the position on June 27, will continue to act as chairman of the independent oil and gas exploration, drilling, and production company as well. The company also announced that William M. Aber Jr. has been appointed CEO and vice president of The American Energy Group and president of Hycarbex-American Energy Inc. The company added that Dean C. Smith Jr. has been appointed CFO of The American Energy Group, while Michael Zabransky was appointed vice president of exploration and production for American Energy Operating Corp.
