Pennsylvania’s natural gas production declined by 5.1% in the final quarter of 2022, the largest year/year decline since monthly production data began, according to the state’s Independent Fiscal Office (IFO).

This was the fourth consecutive quarter in which production did not increase on a yearly basis, according to the IFO’s Natural Gas Production Report compiled by Jesse Bushman and Rachel Flaugh. 

In the Keystone State, unconventional drilling yielded 1.856 Tcf in 4Q2022, down from 1.956 Tcf the year prior. In 2022, Pennsylvania’s oil and gas operators produced 7.439 Tcf, a 1.6% decrease from 2021.
