Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line is planning to add 500 MMcf/d of firm transportation capacity on its Muncie Lateral in Ohio and will extend the line with a 124-mile, 30-inch diameter pipe, designed to carry western and southwestern supplies eastward.

The project is designed to increase access to gas supply from the Midcontinent, the Rockies and the Gulf Coast and from Trunkline LNG’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Lake Charles, LA for customers in the Midwest and along the East Coast.

Panhandle, a Southern Union subsidiary, has scheduled an open season through May 14 for potential customers to request long-term transportation service on the proposed project, which would extend the Muncie Lateral from Grant County, IN, to Cincinnati.

The project would provide additional transportation capacity to Dayton, Cincinnati and East Coast markets through connections at Lebanon, OH, to Texas Eastern Transmission, Columbia Gas Transmission and Dominion Transmission. It is planned to be in service by November 2006.

“This project will enhance Panhandle Eastern’s access to existing Midwest markets and offer new East Coast markets natural gas supplies from the Midcontinent, Rocky Mountains and Gulf Coast, as well as liquefied natural gas supplies,” said COO David Stevens. “Panhandle Eastern is committed to providing multiple supply options to these markets to help meet the growing need for natural gas.”

Panhandle Eastern will accept non-binding requests from April 20 until May 14. Open season documents can be obtained by calling either Jim Van Matre at (713) 989-7625 or Gregg Russell at (713) 989-7624.
