The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) has added CenterPoint Energy Services (CES) to its list of approved natural gas suppliers for large commercial, industrial and governmental consumers in several areas of the state.

CES, whose license was unanimously approved, will be licensed to supply gas service in the territories served by Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania Inc., Equitable Gas Co., PECO Energy Co., PPL Gas Utilities Corp., UGI Utilities Inc. and UGI Penn Natural Gas Inc.

According to the PUC, Columbia Gas’ commercial and industrial gas is now supplied by Shipley Energy and Hess Corp. UGI uses Shipley, Hess and Gasmark for its commercial supplies. And Equitable, PECO, PPL only use Hess as their commercial supplier. All of Pennsylvania’s gas consumers may choose their supplier from those licensed to supply gas within their service territories.

CES is the nonregulated gas marketing group of corporate parent CenterPoint Energy, which is based in Houston. CES now provides competitive gas services for commercial, industrial and wholesale customers. The unit serves more than 6,000 commercial and industrial customers in 16 states in the Midwest, Midcontinent, Gulf Coast and Northeast.
