The United States bested all countries last year for natural gas and oil production, according to BP plc’s annual energy review.

U.S. natural gas output in 2021 climbed 2.3% year/year to 934.2 billion cubic meters (Bcm), according to BP’s 71st annual Statistical Review of World Energy.  Russia, in second place, produced 701.7 Bcm, and Iran was No. 3 at 256.7 Bcm.

Domestic oil output in 2021 reached 16.58 million b/d, up 0.8% from 2020. Saudi Arabia, which leads the OPEC cartel,  ranked second at 10.95 million b/d, while Russia was third with 10.94 million b/d.
