The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported an injection of 54 Bcf natural gas into storage for the week ended Sept. 2. The print came in roughly on par with expectations but below historic norms. Nymex natural gas futures were ahead in early trading Thursday – before and after the report.

In the comparable week last year, EIA printed an injection of 48 Bcf, but the five-year average injection was 65 Bcf.

“It was hotter than normal over much of the U.S. besides portions of Texas and the South, but even then, these areas were still quite warm with highs of 80s and 90s,” NatGasWeather said of the EIA report period.
