PAO Novatek has discovered a prolific natural gas and condensate field it plans to use to boost the resource base for its Arctic LNG 1 project as it furthers its goal of growing Russian exports.

Novatek, Russia’s largest independent natural gas producer, reported it has found a field on the Gydan Peninsula in the far northern reaches of the country with an estimated recoverable reserve of 52 billion cubic meters of natural gas and 2 million tons of liquids.

Dubbed the Viktor Girya field, after the late geologist and a founding executive of Novatek, it is the firm’s latest discovery as it has worked to build a network of proven reserves across the Gydan Peninsula to feed its proposed liquefied natural gas export terminals.
