FERC on Tuesday issued a favorable environmental assessment (EA) of Northern Natural Gas Co.’s West Leg 2014 Expansion Project in Nebraska and Iowa.
“The FERC [Federal Energy Regulatory Commission] staff concludes that approval of the proposed project, with appropriate mitigating measures, would not constitute a major federal action significantly affecting the quality of the human environment,” said the EA notice [CP13-528].
The project calls for the construction of gas facilities in Dakota and Dodge counties, NE, and Woodbury County, IA, to provide 88,430 Dth/d to serve growing gas demand in industrial, commercial and residential markets.
The project includes approximately seven miles of 20- and 24-inch diameter pipeline in Dakota County and Woodbury County; two new compressor stations with a combined 14,180 hp in Dodge County; and a new meter station in Woodbury County.
Participating agencies in the EA were the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, and the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District.
