MidAmerican Energy’s Northern Natural Gas pipeline on Friday filed concurrent requests at FERC to increase the capacity of its storage facilities in Iowa and Kansas.

The pipeline is seeking to raise the certificated storage capacity of its Redfield Storage Field by 2 Bcf to 122 Bcf and to increase the certificated withdrawal rates to 460 MMcf/d at the facility in Dallas County, IA [CP05-410]. It also proposes to replace two existing 2,400-horsepower compressor units with two new 3,550-hp compressor units at its Cunningham Compressor Station in Pratt County, KS, and raise the certificated withdrawal rate to 720 MMcf/d and injection rate to 545 MMcf/d at its Cunningham Storage Field in Pratt and Kingman counties, KS [CP05-411].

Northern Natural said it has executed service agreements for 6 Bcf of firm deferred delivery service (FDD) on the two projects, including 2 Bcf of incremental capacity at the Richfield Storage Field and 4 Bcf of FDD service supported by the Cunningham Storage Field project.

The pipeline said it has signed binding contracts for FDD service for the incremental capacity at the Richfield Storage with Northern States Power Co.-Minnesota and Northern States Power Co -Wisconsin for a term of 21 years, beginning June 1, 2006.

Northern Natural does not propose to construct or modify natural gas-related facilities at the Redfield Storage Field, which includes 194 wells and four compressor units totaling 7,000 hp.

Omaha, NE-based Nothern Natural’s system consists of 4.5 Bcf/d of market-area peak capacity and five storage facilities with capacity of 59 Bcf, including 4 Bcf of liquefied natural gas. Its system extends from the Permian Basin in Texas to the Upper Midwest.
