Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America (NGPL) is planning to add 10 Bcf of working gas capacity to its North Lansing gas storage field in Harrison County, TX. The pipeline company is offering incremental storage capacity in an open season that started Monday and will end March 21.

“Increased capacity at North Lansing, combined with our proposed 10 Bcf Sayre field storage expansion currently on file with the FERC, shows NGPL’s commitment to adding storage infrastructure to serve the strong demand for additional storage in the marketplace,” said NGPL President Scott Parker. “We will continue to pursue the development of storage infrastructure to meet customer requirements and provide flexibility for the planned increase in Gulf Coast LNG imports.”

The proposed North Lansing expansion will make additional storage space available to shippers on NGPL’s Gulf Coast line. The increase in working capacity to about 94.7 Bcf will be created by drilling additional wells and recompleting existing wells, expanding gathering and installing new compression and auxiliary equipment. Deliverability is expected to remain at 1.1 Bcf/d.

The proposed project would be the second expansion NGPL has undertaken at the facility recently. The addition of 10.7 Bcf of storage service in 2003, now committed under long-term contracts, shows the growing need for additional Midwest storage infrastructure and the continued importance of the North Lansing storage field in meeting that demand, NGPL said. The company expects the new storage space to be available for service on April 1, 2007.
