Amid continued strength in the outlook for liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports, albeit with looming uncertainty from another major hurricane aimed at the Gulf Coast, gas futures extended the previous session’s rally in early trading Tuesday. The November Nymex contract was up 2.8 cents to $2.643/MMBtu at around 8:50 a.m. ET.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Delta, the latest named storm in a hectic season in the Atlantic, strengthened into a hurricane Monday evening. The cyclone, about 370 miles from Cozumel, Mexico, was “rapidly strengthening” as of 8 a.m. ET Tuesday, bringing maximum sustained winds of 110 mph.
