Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline recently filed an applicationwith the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to construct,own and operate a 1.1-mile, 12-inch diameter lateral pipeline toprovide gas service to the Maine Independence Station, currentlyunder construction in Veazie, ME. The Maine Independence Station isDuke Energy Power Services’ 520 MW gas-fueled generating station.

Maritimes & Northeast is the transportation facility for theSable Offshore Energy Project,offshore Nova Scotia which willbegin production in November 1999. The Maritimes & Northeastproject consists of about 650 miles of 24- and 30-inch diametermainline pipe from the landfall at Goldboro, Nova Scotia, toDracut, MA.

Phase II of Maritimes & Northeast from Westbrook, ME to theU.S.-Canadian border recently received a certificate of publicconvenience and necessity from the FERC. The lateral proposed toserve the generating facility in Veazie will interconnect with the24-inch diameter mainline in Eddington, ME, and will generallyfollow existing utility corridor rights-of-way.

Maine Independence Station is owned by Casco Bay Energy Co., anaffiliate of Duke Energy Power Services. Duke Energy Power Servicesdevelops, owns and operates electric power plants across the UnitedStates and Canada.
