Kinder Morgan said it is planning to double the size of its Markham storage field in Matagorda County, TX, to serve CenterPoint Energy Gas Services and potentially other customers. The expansion, which is expected to be completed in summer 2005, would add 6 Bcf of working gas capacity, 90 MMcf/d of injection capacity and 250 MMcf/d of deliverability.

“The expansion project is being anchored by a long-term agreement KMP recently enter into to provide storage services to CenterPoint Energy Gas Services,” said Steve Kean, president of Kinder Morgan’s intrastate pipeline system. “The expansion of the Markham facility provides us with increased flexibility as well as opportunities to sell incremental services to third parties.”

To complete the expansion, Kinder Morgan has exercised an option with an affiliate of Texas Brine Co. LLC to lease an additional salt cavern at Markham. The company also will be installing compression and dehydration equipment to increase injection and deliverability.

Currently the Markham storage field has 6 Bcf of working gas capacity, 100 MMcf/d of injection capacity and 500 MMcf/d of deliverability. Gas receipt and delivery takes place at multiple locations along the 5,800-mile Kinder Morgan Texas pipeline system.
