The Israeli government is aiming to take advantage of increased global interest in liquefied natural gas (LNG) as Europe and Asia work to replace Russian fossil fuel imports.

“The European energy market is facing a substantial shortage following the Russia crisis,” Israel’s Energy Minister Karin Elharrar recently said. Chevron Corp. and Israel-based NewMed Energy see “an opportunity and will take full advantage of it.”

Last month, senior sources at the Israeli Energy Ministry confirmed to the Times of Israel that  European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson had asked Israel if it could supply LNG to Europe to reduce reliance on Russian gas imports.
