Ida came in like the major hurricane she was, temporarily reversing the course of the Mississippi River and shutting down nearly all of the natural gas and oil produced in the Gulf Mexico (GOM). The aftermath also is looking to be long and difficult as thousands of people may be without power into the fall.

The Category 4 hurricane made landfall around noon on Sunday with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph. Ida roared ashore at the critical energy port of Port Fourchon, LA, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. The multi-use coastal port functions primarily as a land base for offshore oil and natural gas support service companies.
