Kinder Morgan said it is evaluating the feasibility of developing a pipeline or expanding Natural Gas Pipeline Co.’s (NGPL) Louisiana line to accommodate natural gas from several liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminals planned along the Gulf Coast. The additional transportation capacity would be used to deliver regasified LNG to various markets and pipeline hubs in the region along the coasts of Texas and Louisiana.

As currently planned, the Kinder Morgan LNG Pipeline would originate in eastern Jefferson County, TX, near Sabine Pass, where several LNG terminals are planned, and would continue about 77 miles to northeastern Cameron Parish, LA, south of Lake Arthur.

Kinder Morgan said the proposed pipeline would have the capability to transport between 1 Bcf/d and 2.3 Bcf/d of gas from proposed re-gasification plants along the Texas/Louisiana border to various interstate and intrastate pipelines.

There are about 12 LNG terminals proposed along the Gulf Coast of Texas, Mexico and Louisiana. Eight proposed and existing LNG terminals in the general vicinity of the proposed Kinder Morgan pipeline, both onshore and offshore, including the Golden Pass, Port Arthur, Sabine Pass, Cameron LNG, Gulf Landing, Pearl Crossing, Port Pelican and Lake Charles LNG terminals (see NGI’s listing of existing and proposed LNG terminals at https://intelligencepress.com/features/lng/terminals/lng_terminals.html). Total proposed peak sendout capacity of the eight terminals would be about 12 Bcf/d if all of them were built.

The Cameron, Port Pelican and Trunkline LNG expansions already have been approved by FERC and the Coast Guard. In total, they represent about 4.27 Bcf/d of additional LNG sendout capacity in the area.
