Jim Buccigross, regulatory division manager of Boston-basedenergy consulting firm Skipping Stone Inc., is the energyindustry’s first Gas Industry Standards Board (GISB)-certifiedreviewer. Through GISB, Buccigross has the authority to review andcertify that a company’s software meets crucial criteria thatsupports GISB-set standards.

“GISB can now, for the first time, provide an objective measureof compliance to industry standards. Independent certification addsconsiderably to the value of an organization and differentiates itssoftware solutions,” Buccigross said. Buccigross, a high-technologyattorney specializing in e-commerce and electronic transactions inthe energy industry, is the current executive committee chairmanfor GISB and has actively participated in both the Federal EnergyRegulatory Commission’s (FERC) and GISB’s standards committees.

Certification can be performed only by a GISB-certified reviewerand involves an in-depth, often on-site, examination of a company’stechnology. Voluntary and confidential, GISB certification canserve to enhance credibility and awareness of industry standardsand may be utilized as an independent checkpoint to ensure thatsoftware solutions include key standardization elements.GISB-certified software products may display the GISB CertificationMark. The certification program begins with GISB standards version1.3, and re-certification is required every two years.
