German utility RWE AG has joined a partnership to study producing and exporting ammonia with natural gas in the United States as it plans future expansions for its LNG import facilities in Germany.

Port of Corpus Christi

RWE, Lotte Chemical Corp. and Mitsubishi Corp. have jointly agreed to explore development of a project at the Port of Corpus Christi in South Texas. The facility could be a large-scale integrated production and export hub producing ammonia from both natural gas and renewable energy, according to the firms.

The facility could be expanded through multiple phases to eventually produce 10 million tons/year (Mt/y). First production is targeted sometime in 2030. The partnership is currently in discussion with the Port of Corpus Christi about the project’s possible land requirements,...
