Cheniere Energy Inc.-backed Midship Pipeline Co. LLC on Monday was given the green light by FERC to build its long-awaited 1.44 Bcf/d natural gas pipeline that would move supply from the prolific Anadarko Basin to the Gulf Coast for potential export.

The Midcontinent Supply Header Interstate Pipeline Project, i.e. MIDSHIP, was issued a certificate by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission after receiving a final environmental impact statement in June (No. CP17-458-000).

MIDSHIP as designed would transport supply to existing gas pipelines near Bennington, OK, for subsequent transport to Gulf Coast and Southeast markets. The pipeline would carry gas from Oklahoma’s Sooner Trend of the Anadarko Basin, mostly in Canadian and Kingfisher counties (STACK) and the South Central Oklahoma Oil Province, or SCOOP.

More than half of the pipeline is to be sited on or near existing rights-of-way.

The 36-inch diameter mainline would run about 200 miles through Oklahoma’s prolific Kingfisher, Canadian, Grady, Garvin, Carter, Johnston and Bryan counties. Included is a 30-inch diameter, 20.5-mile lateral in Kingfisher County; a 16-inch diameter, 13.8-mile lateral in Stephens, Carter and Garvin counties; and 24-inch diameter tie-in piping for 0.1-miles in Canadian County.

MIDSHIP also plans to build three compressor stations and a booster station totaling 118,400 hp, as well as receipt and delivery meters and other associated facilities.

Binding commitments totaling 825 MMcf/d already are in place from Devon Gas Services LP, Marathon Oil Co., Gulfport Energy Corp. and Cheniere’s planned Corpus Christi Liquefaction LLC (CCL) liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project underway in South Texas.

In related news, Cheniere on Monday asked FERC for authorization by Thursday (Aug. 16) to begin introducing feed gas to Train 1 of CCL (No. CP12-507-000). Cheniere earlier this year issued a final investment decision to build a third train at the Corpus project, with the first two trains scheduled to begin service next year.

Cheniere in 2016 became the first company to export Lower 48 gas to overseas markets from the Sabine Pass LNG facility in Cameron Parish, LA. On Monday Cheniere said it secured another export contract with Taiwan’s state-owned oil and gas company, CPC Corp., for 2 million metric tons/year beginning in 2021.

During a conference call last week to discuss second quarter results, Cheniere CEO Jack Fusco said 61 cargoes were produced and exported during the quarter from Sabine Pass, the year-to-date total was more than 150 cargoes loaded and exported. LNG from Sabine Pass is now destined for 28 countries.

Midship Pipeline is owned by Midship Holdings LLC, which in turn is indirectly owned by Cheniere and funds/companies managed/owned by EIG Management Co.
