The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has authorized Sempra Infrastructure’s amended design for the expansion of its Cameron LNG facility as the firm aims for a final investment decision (FID) this summer for the project.

In early 2022, Sempra filed a request to amend the approval for its proposed 6.75 million metric tons/year expansion of the Hackberry, LA facility after deciding to scale back the scope of the project. The firm chose to build only one additional train as part of the expansion and include efficiency improvements on the first phase of Cameron to unlock more capacity. It also included the installation of electric drive turbines to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions over the life-time of the project.
