FERC Asked to Probe SoCal Border Basis
Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) yesterday called on FERC to conduct astudy into why there is such a huge differential between prices fornatural gas in the supply basin and prices for the gas delivered tothe Southern California border.
“Something’s wrong” when a producer in New Mexico gets about $5for the gas he produces, but that same gas then sells for $30 ormore in the Southern California market, Domenici said during ahearing before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources CommitteeThursday.
“You ought to be concerned” about this, Domenici admonished FERCChairman Curt Hebert Jr., who testified yesterday about theCommission’s latest efforts to relieve the power and gas supplyshortages in California.
