The Gate liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in the Netherlands plans to add another 1 billion cubic meters (Bcm) of annual regasification capacity to serve growing demand. 

The expansion would boost overall capacity at the facility to 13.5 Bcm annually, or roughly 477 Bcf/year, along with recently announced expansions. The additional send-out capacity is expected to come online in October 2024.

The 1 Bcm expansion is being developed in cooperation with German utility Uniper SE as its LNG trade has expanded significantly in recent years. Uniper’s LNG director Andreas Gemballa said the company’s trading activities have grown from less than 30 cargoes in 2016 to more than 300 so far this year.
