EQT Corp. is launching a nature-based carbon offset initiative, a first for the No. 1 natural gas producer in the United States, to reduce emissions from the atmosphere.

The Pennsylvania-based independent is partnering with the Wheeling Park Commission in West Virginia, along with Teralytic and Climate Smart Environmental Consulting LLC, to begin the carbon offset program on more than 1,000 acres of forest land in Oglebay, WV.

“Nature-based projects like this, which are supported by cutting edge technology that ensures accuracy and transparency, will help offset EQT’s remaining emissions and advance our mission to deliver cheaper, more reliable, cleaner energy to the world,” EQT’s Rob Wingo, executive vice president of Corporate Ventures said.
