Mozambique could soon export its first LNG from the Eni SpA-operated Coral-Sul Floating LNG (FLNG) facility offshore Mozambique’s northern coastline, as an LNG tanker is sailing to the facility to load the first cargo.

The British Mentor was floating in the Mozambique Channel on Thursday, just south of the Comoro Islands, according to ship-tracking data provided by Kpler. The tanker is expected to dock at the facility on Sept. 9.

The $7 billion liquefied natural gas vessel is one of several projects Eni and its partners have aimed at helping Europe reduce dependence on Russian gas imports. Eni has signed new gas supply arrangements with Algeria, Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and has become a partner in Qatar’s massive North Field East LNG project.
