El Paso Corp. pipeline subsidiary Wyoming Interstate Co. Ltd. (WIC) has filed an application at FERC seeking the go-ahead to carry out an expansion of its system to transport additional natural gas production out of the Rocky Mountain region.

The $120 million project calls for the construction of 142 miles of 24-inch diameter pipeline looping from the Greasewood Hub in Rio Blanco County, CO, through Moffat County, CO, to interconnects with WIC’s mainline and the interstate pipe facilities of affiliate Colorado Interstate Gas Co. (CIG) at Wamsutter in Sweetwater County, WY [CP05-54].

Natural gas eventually would be delivered to the Cheyenne Hub in northeastern Colorado, where it would flow into pipelines taking Rocky Mountain supplies eastward, including the recently completed 380-mile, 560,000 Dth/d Cheyenne Plains pipeline. WIC said it expects the project, which would have the ability to deliver 350,000 Dth/d, to be in service by December 2007.

WIC’s so-called Piceance Basin Expansion Project is one of three new projects that El Paso affiliates are targeting. The other two include an expansion of CIG’s Raton Basin line to transport growing coal seam production from the Raton Basin to markets in Colorado, as well as to Mid-Continent pipeline interconnections; and the construction of Southern Natural Gas’s Cypress Natural Gas Pipeline from Elba Island in Savannah, GA, to Jacksonville, FL (see NGI, Jan. 10).
