Due to one of the largest storage systems in the country andgenerally low gas prices, East Ohio Gas said Monday that itscustomers will achieve 16% in gas cost savings over the next threemonths compared to the same time last year. Officials for theutility said that its customers will be charged a rate of $3.28 perMcf for the next three months, compared to $3.89 Mcf over the sameperiod in 1998.

“We’ve got one of the largest storage facilities in the country.Combine that with the low prices the nation is seeing in gas, andthat tells you how we are able to save these customers this much,”said Jeff Zidonis, an East Ohio Gas spokesman.

The company said the savings stem from a quarterly adjustment inits gas cost recovery rate (GCR). For this quarter, the GCR is down12% from the same time last year, East Ohio officials said. “Thoselower costs will result in an average monthly savings of over$10.31, based on typical residential consumption,” said JeffMurphy, and East Ohio Gas spokesman. The East Ohio Gas Co. isheadquartered in Cleveland. It is the largest distributionsubsidiary of Consolidated Natural Gas.
