Dynegy Inc. said yesterday it is combining its power generationoperations with its trading and marketing organization to “furtherdefine and capture opportunities presented by the convergence ofthe gas and power industries.” The new organization will operateunder the name Dynegy Marketing and Trade. Steve Bergstrom willserve as president and chief operating officer.

“Basically as we see more and more of these merchant powerplants, where you don’t have long term contracts attached to them,being developed, our strategy is to use our trading and marketingcapability to increase the returns on the values of our generatingassets. And we have them in two separate organizations, one inDynegy Power and the other in Dynegy Marketing and Trade. We feellike the opportunity now is right to combine them up so that wehave a seamless connection with generation and marketing,” saidBergstrom. “Internally is had become increasingly difficult toexecute. Now they will all be in [one group].”

The restructuring involves creation of a new management team,which includes Dan Ryser, executive vice president; Joel Staib,executive vice president, energy trading; Matt Schatzman, executivevice president, energy marketing and origination; Donna Atchison,executive vice president, commercial asset management; Rick Bowen,executive vice president, project development; and Louis Dorey,executive vice president, strategy and planning.
