Duke Energy subsidiary Duke Energy Industrial Asset Developmentand Primary Energy, a subsidiary of NIPSCO Industries, are formingan alliance to market on-site generation to energy-intensivebusinesses in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

“This alliance helps us build our marketing staff and boosts ourdevelopment efforts in a high-growth area,” said Bobby Abrams, DukeEnergy Industrial president. “This region has significant potentialfor industrial expansion.” The alliance will target industries suchas petrochemical, petroleum, and pulp and paper.

“By combining the project development experience of PrimaryEnergy with the full basket of services Duke Energy Industrial hasto offer, our two companies will be able to provide reduced energycosts and improved efficiency to industrial customers throughon-site generation,” said Joe Turner, president of Primary Energy.”The key to our future will be our customers’ success and savingsfrom our combined efforts.” Through existing relationships withFluor Daniel and Duke/Fluor Daniel, both companies will providedesign, engineering and construction services for its projects.

Primary Energy develops and manages energy projects for large,energy-intensive complexes. The company has four projects incommercial operation with completion of the fifth due next month.These five projects for major Midwest industrials represent 400 MW.
