Dominion Energy is making good on its plans to invest in renewable natural gas (RNG), as CEO Thomas Farrell indicated in July.

Dominion and Smithfield Foods, through their joint venture Align Renewable Natural Gas, initially are going to manufacture RNG at a facility in Milford, in southwestern Utah. The RNG would be produced from a large network of around 26 family hog farms that are under contract to Smithfield, a pork producer and food processing company based in Smithfield, VA. 

Align is to be one of the first efforts in Utah to take methane produced by the farms and create RNG. The partners estimated the RNG production could heat more than  3,000 homes and businesses. As important, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) substantially.
